Numerous plates some chromolithographed others monochrome sepia or aqua and black and white in-text illustrations. Bound in half red morocco leather over red cloth with a red ribbon spines ribbed and gilt stamped tops gilt. Several volumes with light wear or rubbing to the leather at the edges or joints some joints stressed most of the boards a little bowed a few with heavier bowing. Vol. XVII stressed at the hinges and weak resulting in some surface cracking to the leather of the front board. The books clean throughout each with bookplate to the front paste-down. The edition includes all Ruskin's letters privately circulated publications and scattered writings and all published works then known in print and out. 191032821Minneapolis: Litho. Dept. of International Stock Food Company n.d. ca 1910. 1910. 20 1/2" x 28 1/4" colorful chromolithograph that promotes how International Stock Food will make the sows raise more healthy pigs. An elaborate and colorful broadside that was taken from a book given to purchasers of 25 pounds of International Stock Animal Feed. The lithographs were originally folded within the book so it is normal to see horizontal and vertical folds. The company was founded in Minneapolis in 1886 by Marion Willis Savage and still is in operation today. It was sold in 2007 to new owners and the headquarters are now located in Canada. Savage manufactured and sold animal feed as well as veterinary supplies and used these posters as a means of advertising. The front side of the poster is colorful and promotes the use of hog feed in order to help sows to raise more healthy pigs. Testimonials tell of one sow raising 21 pigs or three sows raising 52 pigs. The reverse side contains testimonials from successful users of the feed. The company further says "It keeps sows healthy and extra vigorous so that they will give more and richer milk and insures their raising more pigs if a practical test does not prove this true we will not charge you a cent for all you feed. Is this fair" As a way of promoting his 3 Feeds For One Cent Savage purchased exhibited and raced horses. The stable included Creseus Directum Arion Minor Heirand the legendary Dan Patch for whom he paid $60000.00 in 1902. In 1906 Dan Patch would break the world record by completing the mile in 1 minute and 55 seconds at the Minnesota State Fair. The record stood for 54 years. In 1909 Dan Patch injured one of his legs. On July 4 1916 both Dan Patch and M. W. Savage became ill. While Mr. Savage was recovering from surgery he learned that his favorite race horse had died. Less than a day later on July 12 Savage also died his physician stated the cause of death was the shock of losing Dan Patch. M. W. Savage was 57 years old at the time of his death. Some scraping in lower margin and soiling in margins near very good. A poster for an itinerant showman who exhibited genuine motion pictures as opposed to lantern slides or stereopticon images apparently with some success between 1905-1907. On offer a very rare archive of handwritten manuscript documents notes file cards and typed letter written authored by Dr. Mary L Cook famed Quaker physician teacher and children's rights activist. There are many monuments to her outstanding works in her home state of Ohio. The archive details her preparation for her speech A Plea for Children's Rights. In total there are nineteen 19 6 x 3.25 inch file cards; one 1 8.5 x 11 inch 6 pp typed copy of a speech; 3 detached sides of #10 envelopes used for notes and lastly thirteen 13 5 x 8 inch page notepad style sheets. VG. BIO NOTES: Cook graduated in 1887 and was the valedictorian of the first graduating class of the Harveysburg Ohio public schools. Cook 1869-1964 was born to Seth and Hannah Cook Quakers who lived near Mt. Holly in Warren County. While working as a secretary she enrolled in an evening medical school and graduated after four years. She eventually saved enough money to study one year at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at the University of Illinois. She graduated in 1908 and in the fall she returned to Waynesville Ohio and opened her office located in the Waynesville National Bank building on the northwest corner of Main and North streets. She practiced medicine in Waynesville for more than 52 years. In 1958 at the age of 88 Cook ranked as one of the oldest women practitioners in the United States. Cook was instrumental in the founding of the public library in Waynesville. In early 1917 she gathered together interested citizens and established a library association. The state granted a charter on Ohio May 1 1917. In 1924 the Library Association Board assumed the responsibilities of a school district public library. Commercial string-tied album in black textured wraps. 58 cyanotype 11" by 8.25" and 55 gelatin-silver prints most 9.5" by 7.25" some 6" by 3.5" or smaller; four of the latter apparently perished. Adhesive-mounted recto and verso on black paper sheets. Very good. Some glue-bleaching to cyanotypes' edges. Many pages cleanly detatched from from perforated tabs but photos remain clean. <br/><br/>Album of storage tanks agitators and other liquid-related metal machinery photos compiled by the manufacturer which – judging by the locations of most of its clients – was located somewhere in the Midwestern United States. Majority of the photos show a single piece of equipment captioned with its order number destination e.g. "National Ice Cream Co. San Francisco" the product name e.g. "Deep Upright Closed Tank" shipment date dimensions and other relevant notes; several images show the product installed in its destination factory but most appear to have been taken before shipment. Many clients were ice-cream and other dairy processing plants and the majority were American; but a few were international including the Nestle plant in Switzerland and a Cuban brewery. Among the American non-dairy plants were the Coors brewery in Colorado a Perth Amboy chemical plant and a California paint manufacturer. Two images depict a dozen salesmen posing at the tank factory and others show factory workers in motion. Likely assembled as a salesman's book or perhaps company archive with its many cyanotypes a striking vernacular book and an informative record of industrial food preparation at the dawn of the Ford age. paperback books
