Tre tomi in 8° (cm 14 x 22), copertine mute coeve, pp 302 per il primo tomo; 328 per il secondo; 230 per il terzo. Esemplare , in barbe, parzialmente intonso. Ricchissima opera che esamina le cause delle rivoluzioni nei Paesi Bassi, e loro conseguenze, attribuita dal Barbier al M. (1743-1794), personaggio controverso dall'esistenza tumultuosa, trascorsa in parte in America, su cui scrisse; dopo una carriera commerciale, andò a Parigi per fondare filiali della banca che aveva ad Amsterdam. Qui si unì ai realisti costituzionali e nel '94 fu ghigliottinato. L'opera si apre con un "Tableau historique" dalle origini di quelle terre fino ai giorni dell'A., che occupa il primo, e parte del secondo tomo; troviamo numerosi dettagli narrati, quale la descrizione di medaglie coniate in occasione di vittorie; una lunga descrizione di Amsterdam e di tutte le città e cittadine delle Province Unite; un fervido elogio degli olandesi sotto il profilo dell'abilità commerciale e degli scambi. A metà del secondo tomo, troviamo il "Tableau graduel du commerce et des possessions d'outre-mer hollandaises", con particolareggiato resoconto dello stato attuale del commercio (e della Marina) in Olanda, dei possedimenti e delle piazzeforti oltremare, con breve ma esaustiva descrizione delle città principali, dei prodotti importati dalle colonie: minuziose descrizioni del caffè, thè, cacao e sul cioccolato (undici pagine consacrate a questi prodotti di lusso -dal seme all'albero alla lavorazione all'esportazione al consumo e prezzi- ancora parzialmente ignoti a livello di masse in Europa) bétel, caucciù, indaco..., così come delle materie prime che ivi si producono, con tabelle delle entrate, fondi e capitali della "Compagnie des Indes orientales Hollandaises"; ogni tanto si aprono squarci affascinanti nel discorso intessuto di ponderose cifre e dati tecnici, come le pagine sull coltivazione delle ostriche perlifere, l'estrazione delle perle, le varie qualità e l'ineguale valore di esse, la madreperla secondo i naturalisti, primo fra tutti Linneo; oppure le numerose pagine consacrate alle miniere diamantifere di Ceylon, con innumerevoli notizie curiose sulle tecniche di estrazione, e tabelle riguardanti il valore in fiorini dei diamanti secondo la caratura. Il terzo tomo tratta escusivamente di "anecdotes", ciè notizie storiche, archeologiche, curiose, politiche, pettegolezzi, sistema di governo, ruolo della magistratura, rapporti con gli altri Stati...ecc, delle principali città delle Provinces-Unies, nonchè della rivoluzione d'Olanda: nel 1787 lo statolder Guglielmo V d'Orange viene privato dei poteri da una rivolta antiorangista; l'intervento del re di Prussia Federico Guglielmo II, suo cognato, gli permette di ritornare a capo della Repubblica.
