Octavo seven issues each 16 to 20 pages plus the pictorial wrappers trimmed a little with the front covers slightly cropped; in near-fine condition. The editorial in the first post-war issue in December 1945 suggests there was a hiatus in publication during the war. Provenance: the ownership signature of 'E.J. A striking French promotional movie poster for the Jungle Book featuring the young Indian actor Sabu as Mowgli surrounded by his jungle companions. The film was released in 1942 and was directed by Zoltan Korda his first Hollywood film and filmed in California. Sabu was an ideal realization of Mowgli an Indian boy who is raised by wolves threatened by the tiger Shere Khan and protected by the black panther Bagheera. <br> <br>The exceptionally bold poster design was a hallmark of Paris printing company Richier Laugier who produced high-quality lithographic posters often featuring vibrant Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles. Active primarily in the 1930s to 1950s the firm collaborated with notable artists and designers producing works that have since become bywords for vintage French graphic design. . 189093665New York: McLoughlin Bro's 1890. Unbound. Original vintage puzzle. 49 colored cardboard pieces in original box approximately 13 x 8.75". The puzzle put together measures approximately 19.5 x 11.75". Missing one piece otherwise in fine condition in the original box which has very minor wear.<br /> <br /> Nineteenth century puzzles were cut by hand from solid wood or a thin veneer on press board with coping saws treadle scroll saws and if the material was thin enough by slicing with a very sharp knife. The limitations of materials and equipment kept the pieces large the knobs if any large and the cutting simple usually straight or crooked lines. The market was primarily for children as learning tools maps tables of monarchs history morality lessons bible proverbs fables and by the second half of the nineteenth century simple family entertainment national achievements technology. McLoughlin Brothers a leading lithographer in New York City cut many of their prints into simple puzzles using large square knob cut for edges to hold the puzzle together with straight line cut pieces for the interior.<br /> <br /> This puzzle exemplifies this particular style with the knobby pieces making up the borders and with plain square cut pieces making up the middle. RARELY FOUND ! . . . . STUNNING & MAMMOTH PRE-WORLD WAR II IMAGE OF NAGOYA CASTLE . . This is a very RARE "Mammoth" size photograph seldom found. The photo shows two full side views from the pre-World War 2 period. The castle was destroyed in the bombings during the war and later rebuilt. . The photograph was printed on very thick matte textured photograph paper. It was then neatly folded over a the pine wood frame plywood base then firmly stapled to the edges. Its possible that the frame is of a later vintage than the photograph. . The work is ready for display. . Color photo are posted to our websie. .
