1974C3151
One page typed letter to Burt Hochberg from Salo Flohr. Quarto 11" x 8 1/2" typed on one side in Russian and signed by Salo Flohr.

Letter with English translation discusses the recent tournament in Leningrad. The deaths of L Stein which the next of which the second interzonal will be dedicated and mentions the passing of Kmoch and Horowitz.

Salomon Mikhailovich Flohr was a Czechoslovak and Soviet chess player and writer. He was among the first recipients of the title International Grandmaster from FIDE in 1950. Flohr dominated many tournaments of the pre-World War II years and by the late 1930s was considered a contender for the World Championship. However his patient positional style was overtaken by the sharper more tactical methods of the younger Soviet echelon after World War II.

Burt Hochberg 1933-2006 was an expert on chess and other games and puzzles. He authored and edited many books on chess and served as editor of both Chess Life from December 1966 until October 1979 inclusive and GAMES magazine. Hochberg has been the longest-serving editor in the history of Chess Life magazine.

Condition: Signed letter.
