The letter collection notably describes the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 with another asking the Emperor for instructions regarding official policy concerning Christians. This edition contains commentary by Got. Cortii and P. Dan. Longolii.From the library of Scottish advocate landowner and politician George Dempster 1732-1818 nicknamed Honest George. He founded the bank George Dempster & Co. and was a Director of the East India Company from 1769. Dempster was a key figure of the Scottish Enlightenment and respected as an "independently minded incorruptible and moderately radical MP". He dedicated the later years of his life to improving Scottish fishing and agriculture and improving the living conditions of his tenants. Date based on the I.W.W. headquarters address at 1001 West Madison St. Chicago which the organization occupied from July 1917 to March 1925.<br /> <br /> A well-preserved example of the ephemeral "silent agitator" most of which were attractively designed by the Wobbly poet and illustrator Ralph Chaplin produced to be plastered on any and all surfaces for the recruitment of potential members including itinerant workers and tramps.
