Richards (1903-1971) was greatly influenced by the work of Picasso and Max Ernst and was one of the first British artists to experiment with relief and collage constructions. A brief foray into Surrealism was followed by a move towards a lyrical informal abstraction, indebted to the music of Debussy. This catalogue, published to accompany the major exhibition of Richard's work, investigates his life, methods and sources of inspiration.
