Embossed stamp of the Lynn Free Public Library on the French title page which has on its verso a small label reading "Lynn Library Association No. 224." A very scarce edition 3 copies on WorldCat of this popular advice book by John Gregory 1724-1773 with parallel English and French texts. Much of Gregory's advice to his daughters paints a vivid picture of the lives of girls and women in comfortable circumstances in late 18th-century England; some advice is just as accurate today: "Do not marry a Fool." A pleasing copy. The title page also lists the sunject headings - "ranged under Eleven General Heads Viz. Esculent 1 Roots 2 Shoots Stalks etc. 3.
