After the earthquake in 1906 the restaurant survived but was unable to stay in business under prohibition. Chef Calixte Lalanne opened the Ritz French Restaurant in 1933 after prohibition had ended. In 1942 when Calixte passed his son opened restaurant under the name Ritz Old Poodle Dog to honor his father. Dishes listed are "Tagliarini or Ravioli with Italian Sauce.45" "Special Creamed Crab a la Chef.75" and "Hearts of Lettuce Hard Boiled Egg Anchovies with 'Ritz' Dressing.50". Vignette drawing of the inn p. 1. 18" x 11-7/8" <br/><br/>Hailing from the 19th C the modern history of the Inn began "in 1939 when Danish immigrant Irl Hinrichsen acquired the Inn. With the help of his sons he remodeled the Inn discontinued use of the upstairs hotel rooms and renamed it the Sycamore Inn. The Hinrichsen family Irl and later his son Vern and his family made the Sycamore Inn into one of the prime eateries of the Inland Empire. That old dirt road that fronted the Inn became the fabled Route 66 the primary route from points east to the Pacific Ocean. During those colorful years of the 30's 40's 50's and 60's before freeways the Inn hosted the rich and famous.movie stars and notables both the famous and the infamous en route to Las Vegas and Palm Springs. The Inn is rich with folklore. Legend has it that both Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Short the "Black Dahlia" dined at the Sycamore in the weeks before their untimely demise." Menu: 11" x 7"; Slip: 6-1/2" x 3-3/4" <br/><br/>The Oyster Loaf was located downtown San Francisco in the Financial District. It was known for you guessed it! the Oyster Loaf. This dish is claimed to have originated in San Francisco although New Orleans also makes this claim the jury is still out. Basically an oyster loaf is set up the same way as San Francisco's "Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl". It starts with carving out a sourdough loaf buttering the inside pan-frying oysters in bread crumbs then layering them in the carved out loaf until they fill the top about 25-30 oysters while adding lemon and parsley as you go. Then you bake it. Ta-Da! The stamp on the menu reads "GUINNESS AND OYSTERS ARE GOOD FOR YOU" and the stamp on the slip reads "Featuring - Inglenook Sauterne or Burgundy Splits . 15". unknown books
