Some foxing to head and tail of the menu small inscription to head of the first page of the menu otherwise bright and clean. Wine list with faint soiling and age toning. Ephemera items with some age toning more so to the tan sheet. Nonetheless a nice copy of this little menu collection. Bifolium housed in larger wrappers. Small bifolium inside wine list and two other pieces of ephemera related to the novel "The Maltese Falcon". Menu wrappers with full page/full color illustration by San Francisco artist Dennis Ziemienski. Some smaller illustrations throughout. Menu: 16" x 9" <br/><br/>This menu is inscribed by Elisha Cook Jr. 1903 - 1995 who played Wilmer in the 1941 version of The Maltese Falcon. The inscription reads "Sally & Joe - Best - Elisha Cook". "John's Grill is a historic restaurant in San Francisco California at 63 Ellis Street. The restaurant is famous in part thanks to the novel The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. On the climactic final night of the novel's plot detective Sam Spade dines on chops potatoes and tomato at John's Grill after coming into possession of the falcon." wiki unknown books

Lincecum located at 694 McAllister Street. Mount verso with prior owner pencil annotations naming the 5 individuals behind the counter including Lincecum's wife Adell as well as dating the image Jan 5 - 12. An examination of period San Francisco business directories shows Lincecum's restaurant first appearing in 1910 albeit at another location 459 Franklin no entry in 1911 at this location in 1912 and absent once again from the 1914 as well as 1916 editions. A search of Ancestry shows a Joseph S. Lincecum born in New Brownsville TX in 1866 dying in Deming NM in 1919 who we believe may be this individual though we are unable to independently confirm that supposition. unknown books
