8vo., First Edition thus, with portrait frontispiece (original tissue guard present); handsomely bound in full burgundy crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, second and fourth compartments ruled and lettered in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt with propellor motif, gilt top, hand-made endpapers, printed cloth from original upper board and backstrip mounted on new and separate leaves at front, a most atractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. Kipling's letter does not appear in the US edition where it is replaced with a Preface by Theodore Roosevelt. Enser, p.122; Livingston 436; Noffsinger 143 (recording the US edition). SCARCE.

First and only edition of this rare and beautifully-produced genealogical study. 1, 264 pp plus TWO LARGE HAND-COLORED FOLDING PLATES, one being the family tree and the other depicting 38 coats of arms and seals, colored with minute attention to detail. Text printed on fine laid paper; plates printed on fine wove paper. Armorial bookplate of writer and historian George de Soultrait (1822-1888). 8vo. BEAUTIFULLY BOUND in contemporary quarter polished calf and decorated boards. Spine gilt in five compartments. Minor wear to binding, minor foxing, a couple of short closed tears in larger plate. Else FINE AND BRIGHT, with the coloring completely fresh. Of the greatest rarity.

Volume in 8° legato in pelle, titolo al tassello al dorso a 5 nervi decorato ai piccoli ferri, sguardie (exlibris incollato), bianca, occhiello, frontespizio a due colori con bella vignetta in rame, due carte d'indici, 552 pp., una "Carte du cours du Loiret et de ses environs" più e più volte ripiegata, un "Plan de l'amphitheatre de Bordeaux", altra dello stesso (molto grande) prospettica ed altre sette tavole, tutte incise in rame, di soggetti inerenti i saggi presenti nel volume, tutte più volte ripiegate. Molteplici le relazioni, e delle più disparate, da un'osservazione sulla legge d'adozione nell'antica Atene a studi su Isocrate, alle descrizioni di ruderi o costruzioni dell'età classica, di monete e medaglie eccetera. Spicca negli "Eloges" quello letto in Accademia in occasione della morte di Vertot. Davvero volume ricchissimo, importante, impreziosito dalle grandi tavole iconografiche, tutte significative. In perfetto stato. Assai poco comune
