Twenty-fourmo size 28 pp. The Saint Dominic's Press founded by Harry Hilary Douglas Clarke Pepler flourished at Ditchling Sussex from 1916 to 1936. The first home of the Press was "a disused stable" with a hundred-year-old Stanhope hand-press which supposedly had belonged to William Morris. Pepler endeavored to do everything possible by hand believing that such would both produce the best results and also be a "more individual or 'humane'.product". He therefore "preferred the handpress to the machine handmade to machine-made paper and handset founder's type to the products of typesetting machines." N.b. quotes and information from "Three Private Presses" by Brocard Sewell. <br /> <br /> Per Taylor and Sewell "The Welfare Handbooks were a series of pamplets mainly concerned with social questions written from a Distributist and Roman Catholic standpoint." This volume contains scriptural passages pertaining to the age-old question of the relative merits of wealth vs. poverty vis-a-vis one's relationship with God. One of Warhol's finest works is his series called "Vanishing Animals" where he deployed his masterly silkscreen technique to produce breathtakingly beautiful animal-paintings. Garry Winogrand's "The Animals" is regarded as one of the greatest photography books of the 20th century. But it is to Peter Hujar that Bettina Rheims' own imagery alludes and must be compared. Hujar identified with animals and regarded his animal-portraits as self-portraits: They portray him as being like any other creature vulnerable and defenseless. Rheims portrays her wide-ranging bestiary as though they were her fellow beings Rheims' Ark. What will transfix the viewer is the way she captures their eyes. Whether it's a bird elephant dog sheep or tiger and in an extended sequence chimpanzees and an orangutan the animals stare back at us fierce unblinking and inquisitive in their gaze. L'opera ricostruisce una celebre "Cavalcade" di carri mascherati che percorsero la città nel 1881. Questa edizione, a differenza delle seguenti, presenta oltre alla cartina della città così come appariva nel 1881, anche 23 bellissime tavole color seppia con ognuna l'illustrazione di uno dei carri che presero parte all'evento ispirati alla storia e alle produzioni tipiche della città. Fra di essi si possono vedere i carri: della città, dei Druidi, Quadriga, della Lupa (romana), della vigna e del vino, gotico, della caccia, Pompadour, l'orticoltura, dei pompieri, della lana, della tintura, delle regate, dello sport, del vino Chempagne e diversi altri.
