Dezember 1952 Neuilly-sur-Seine Frankreich. - Mit erotischen Anzüglichkeiten und wohlgesetzten Provokationen wurde die französische Fotografin Bettina Rheims weltberühmt; obgleich ihr Fokus auf dem weiblichen Akt liegt begreift sie sich selbst als Feministin und distanziert sich deutlich vom männlich-voyeuristischen Blick auf den entblößten Frauenkörper. - Bettina Rheims - Erst Fotomodell dann Fotografin wurde am 18. Dezember 1952 als ältestes Kind des französischen Schriftstellers Maurice Rheims und seiner deutschen Frau Lili Krahmer geboren; sie hat zwei Geschwister darunter die Autorin und Filmemacherin Nathalie Reims. Im Alter von 14 Jahren flog sie von der Schule weil sie ein Babylätzchen mit einem Totenkopf verziert hatte. Ein Fotograf des Magazins Paris Match verschaffte ihr ein Praktikum im Fotolabor wo sie erstmals mit der Fotografie in Berührung kam. Zunächst arbeitete Rheims selbst als Fotomodell ehe sie 1970 hinter die Kamera wechselte und mit dem Fotografieren begann. Von Anfang an stand der nackte weibliche Körper im Mittelpunkt ihres Interesses ihre ersten Modelle waren Stripperinnen und Akrobaten die sie in der glitzernden Nachtwelt von Paris ausfindig machte. 1973 machte sie einen kurzen Ausflug ins Filmgeschäft ihre kleine Rolle in der Gangsterkomödie La bonne année von Claude Lelouch blieb allerdings eine Ausnahme. Hinter die Filmkamera stellte sie sich 1987 für die Sängerin Desireless um das Video zum Erfolgslied »Voyage voyage« zu drehen. Unbekannte Modelle und gefragte Prominente: Bettina Rheims verlangt ihren Modellen viel ab oft entstehen die von ihr gewünschten Bilder erst nach langen Stunden des Posierens. Dabei legt die Künstlerin bei ihren Projekten großen Wert auf absolute Freiwilligkeit seitens aller Beteiligten; sie betont dass sie niemals Druck oder gar Zwang ausübe. Für ihre berühmten Bilderserien holt sie meist unbekannte Modelle vor die Kamera immer wieder wird sie aber auch gebeten Prominente ins Bild zu setzen. Ihr Porträt des früheren französischen Präsidenten Jacques Chirac hing einst in Tausenden Amtsstuben Frankreichs mit berühmten Frauen wie Charlotte Rampling oder Sophie Marceau verbindet sie seit gemeinsamen Fotosessions enge Freundschaften. Die besondere Beziehung zu ihren Modellen ob unbekannt oder berühmt ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Arbeit von Bettina Rheims. Während der oft stundenlangen Aufnahmen will die Künstlerin ein Vertrauensverhältnis entwickeln das die Modelle zur Preisgabe ihres Innersten führt denn hinter aller dargestellten Körperlichkeit ist es doch das Verborgene-Seelische das Bettina Rheims mit ihren Bildern erfassen will. - Pionierin und Provokateurin: Im Spiel mit den Geschlechterrollen ging Bettina Rheims weiter als viele andere Künstler vor ihr. Sie fotografierte als eine der Ersten Transgender-Modelle die meisten davon hatte sie über eine Facebook-Annonce gefunden. Gemeinsam mit der Transsexuellen Kim Harlow veröffentlichte sie kurz vor deren Tod den biografischen Bildband Kim. Bettina Rheims hat viermal geheiratet mit ihrem zweiten Ehemann dem Schriftsteller Serge Bramly schrieb sie einige Bücher darunter den vielbeachteten Band Chambre Close 1992 in der Rheims' Bilder die fiktiven Tagebucheinträge eines »Monsieur X« umrahmen; auch ihr Sohn Virgile Maurice Bramly stammt aus dieser Verbindung. Auch nach der Scheidung arbeitete sie weiter mit Bramly zusammen. Für ihre Arbeit erhielt Bettina Rheims Preise und Auszeichnungen unter anderem den Orden Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneuer für ihr Lebenswerk das die Künstlerin selbst aber längst nicht als abgeschlossen ansieht. Two theses were published in 1696 by Jesuits of Reims on the doctrinal preeminence of Molina concerning grace and announced it as dogma for the Catholic church. Concerned about the danger these theses posed to the church and the theological university of Reims the Archbishop of Reims thought it wise to study their content and expose it. This theological quarrel illustrates the latent conflict between the Jesuits and the prelates of the Catholic church. The owner's name has been crossed out on the title page. Cecile Reims a French-Jewish artist was born in Paris in 1927. Following the occupation of France she joined the Jewish combat organization in 1943 and at the conclusion of the war in 1945 she discovered that her entire family had been massacred.<br /> <br /> Jean-Noel Jeannerey President of the French National LIbrary stated the following at the opening of the French National Library exhibit "Cecile Reims Engraver" at the Louvre in 2004: "When she was very young her energy was forged in France in the Resistance movement then in Palestine- but shortly thereafter health deficiencies forced her to take up less. intense strenuous combats in the field of art. Initiated in burin engraving in Paris by Joseph Hecht a rigorous master she produced over 60 original works between 1950 and 1960 which attracted much attention. Her encounter with Hans Bellmer afterwards was decisive. No one can deny that her work contributed greatly to extending the universal success of Bellmer. In the same way after 1971 she worked with many drawings by her husband Fred Deus and by Leonor Fini. For the past few years she is once again doing engravings based on her own compositions. Her talent as an interpreter first secretly then revealed ties her to a splendid tradition. Her own talent as an inventor showing both virtuosity and elegance deserves being acknowledged." Psaumes 1951 is her first published work following her first exhibition at the Le Fanal Gallery. Later in the same year the Bezalel Museum in Jerusalem presented her first exhibit of engravings. One of a limited edition of 400 copies this copy marked #336 . Book is in fine condition printed on Rives Velin paper with eleven delicate etchings--ten full-page ones and a smaller one on title page each etching protected by a laid-in glassine sheet. Title and rear page are wrapped in glassine as well. The slipcase is missing from this book and the spine is slightly darkened. Text is in French and Hebrew. Twenty-fourmo size 28 pp. The Saint Dominic's Press founded by Harry Hilary Douglas Clarke Pepler flourished at Ditchling Sussex from 1916 to 1936. The first home of the Press was "a disused stable" with a hundred-year-old Stanhope hand-press which supposedly had belonged to William Morris. Pepler endeavored to do everything possible by hand believing that such would both produce the best results and also be a "more individual or 'humane'.product". He therefore "preferred the handpress to the machine handmade to machine-made paper and handset founder's type to the products of typesetting machines." N.b. quotes and information from "Three Private Presses" by Brocard Sewell. <br /> <br /> Per Taylor and Sewell "The Welfare Handbooks were a series of pamplets mainly concerned with social questions written from a Distributist and Roman Catholic standpoint."
