Tra le personalità più rilevanti che in momenti diversi ne hanno fatto parte, spiccano Kirchner, Heckel, Schmidt-Rottluff, Nolde, Amiet, Müller e Pechstein. Nato a Dresda nel 1905 in polemica con l'arte accademica e con la società borghese contemporanea, il gruppo ha affermato la priorità della coscienza soggettiva rispetto alle tradizionali istanze artistiche oggettive: sull'esempio del magistero di Munch, Van Gogh e Gauguin, gli artisti della Brücke usano colori accesi, violentemente contrastanti, e semplificano le immagini fino a deformarle.

The Carus Gallery was founded in 1967 in New York and it finally closed in 2002. The gallerys primary interest was in European Graphic Arts, specifically German Expressionism, and Russian Constructivism. 873 books briefly catalogued. Includes both monographs and general works.
