Prima edizione nell’originale francese di questo romanzo composto a Roma nel 1940 e apparso in traduzione tedesca nel 1948. Stampato nell’ottobre 1949 dai torchi dell’Imprimerie Union di Parigi in una tiratura di 2500 esemplari numerati il volume è ornato da 7 tavole a colori di Salvador Dalì disegnate nel 1946. Di famiglia benestante chimico per formazione Sandoz fu viaggiatore cosmopolita compositore e collezionista d’arte orologi e automi; scrittore tra i maggiori della letteratura fantastica svizzera partecipò al movimento surrealista e fu vicino a Dalì che illustrò numerose delle sue opere nelle quali è frequente come in questo romanzo il tema della casa stregata. The fontispiece is signed ÒDaliÓ at the bottom in real ink. We are uncertain whether it is an actual Dali signature as it doesnÕt match the common Dali signature on most of his art. It is possible it could be an earlier or later signature but we are uncertain. If it were a forgery you would think the forger would mimic the common signature most people often see. Due to the undertainty we have not adjusted the price. Price alone is for the work itself. Illustrated dust jacket minor chipping at front bottom corner a bit of minor damp stain at top of spine area. Inside flaps slight clipped not the price at corners. Overall presents excellent in new protective mylar. At time of description our copy is in much better condition than the very few others with jackets ripped and torn available on the market. Scarce work of short horror stories on madness. Rarely seen Dali works of macabre. With color frontispiece and six b&w full page plates by Dali. Dust jacket cover as well repeated with frontispiece.
