Stanley M.D." also there is a note in the owner's hand on P. viii of the Preface indicating the address of the nursery owned by Mr. Gibbs who is mentioned there in the preface. Otherwise clean and tight in original cloth binding with printed title label at spine; label is roned and rubbed cloth at spine has a couple splits but binding quite secure. Notably the section on the Private Brewery was not included in the early editions of this classic work on animal husbandry and bee-keeping and according to the pPreface this is the first edition to include information on British wine making 45 pp. The author addresses this topic in two ways. First "the extensive and fraudful adulteration of foreign Wines in too many instances attended with fatal effects." Secondly with respect to domestic substitutes "consideration as to the most perfect mode of their manufacture" including management of casks fermentation the wine press Painshill water addition private family recipes etc. A nice example of this scarce book in the contemporary cloth binding. . He completed the 2002 trip in 13 days 8 hours and 33 minutes and set records for both the Longest Distance Flown Solo in a Balloon and Fastest Balloon Flight Around the World. Fossett was also one of sailing's most prolific distance record holders set the Absolute World Speed Record for airships with a Zeppelin NT in 2004. He received numerous awards and honors throughout his career including aviation's highest award the Gold Medal of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale FAI which he was awarded in 2002. Complete with the very lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper which is a little faded to the spine. Not price-clipped £6.95 to the front flap. Signed on the title page by Doug Scott in black ink and Chris Bonington in blue ink. Christ Bonington's account of the first successful ascent of the Southwest Face of Mount Everest which he led in 1975 and saw Doug Scott and his climbing partner Dougal Haston become the first Britons to set foot on the summit. Five unsuccessful attempts at the Southwest Face route had previously been made including another led by Bonington in 1972 which failed due to poor weather. In 1828 he edited Les Contes du Gay-Sçavoir a witty collection of medieval ballads and fables. The text is printed in Gothic characters and illustrated to imitate the style of medieval manuscript illumination; it is followed by endnotes and a glossary printed in Roman type. The major illustrator of the work Richard Parkes Bonington was an English Romantic landscape painter who also worked in lithography. He was a close and admired friend of painters Eugene Delacroix and Antoine-Jean Gros. Gordon Ray speaking of Bonington says his importance in the development of lithography can hardly be overstated.His designs for Vues pittoresques de lEcosse and Contes des Gay-Sçavoir are by no means negligible. Bonington's narrative of the first successful ascent of Everest via the south-west face a route that had already defeated the five prior expeditions. The first summiteers Dougal Haston and Doug Scott became the first Britons to set foot on the top of Everest. The book details their route to the summit and describes how following their successful ascent they bivouacked with exhausted supplemental oxygen supplies at 28700 feet spending a 'night out in China' over the border ridge at the South Summit. Illustrated throughout. Top edge slightly faded else a near fine tight clean copy in slightly creased and rubbed dustwrapper which has a very short closed tear to the rear panel but is in very good condition at least. SIGNED ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER 'TO MICHAEL' BY DOUG SCOTT CHARLES CLARKE AND DOUGAL HASTON. Charles Clarke was the expedition doctor and wrote Appendix 10 in the book on Medicine. Whilst copies signed by Bonington Scott and other are relatively common and inexpensive copies signed by the first summiteers together are very scarce. Dougal Haston lived abroad in his role as Director of the International School of Mountaineering in Leysin Switzerland and tragically lost his life in an avalanche whilst skiing a steep couloir near his home in January 1977 soon after the book was published.
