Bookplate of Paul Joseph Sachs a financier and businessman part of the Goldman Sachs firm and a dedicated art collector and expert who was one of the seven founding members of the Museum of Modern Art and was for a time director of the Fogg art museum. He was also on the faculty of Wellesley College and developed pioneering courses there on museum curatorship and print collecting so an important association copy of this rare auction catalog. Designed by Chaz Maviyane-Davies for an international poster exhibition paying tribute to French painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec on the 100 year anniversary of his death in 2001. Photography by Steven Hamman. A couple tiny pinholes at the top corners very faint spotting at the bottom slight bumping at the edge near fine. Limited printing of only 380. <br /> The international exhibition consisted of a collection of 100 original posters printed by 100 graphic designers from 24 countries. Maviyane-Davies is a Zimbabwean born graphic designer. Due to the political climate of Zimbabwe and the controversial nature of his work he moved to the United States in 2001 where he taught design at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. In 2003 he was recognized by the Museum of Fine Arts Boston with an award for outstanding commitment to the struggle to transform society and create a just future. That year he was also Honour laureate at the 13th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition. In 2018 he was awarded an AIGA Boston Fellow Award. <br /> His work has been exhibited across the globe with several permanent collections at various galleries. Toulouse-Lautrec was a French painter belonging to the school of Post-Impressionism who recorded many details of the late-19th-century bohemian lifestyle in Paris through his work. A well-preserved provocative poster by an award-winning controversial designer. unknown

Maurice Joyant was both Toulouse-Lautrec's art dealer and close friend and confidant. He is notably responsible for convincing Toulouse-Lautrec's mother to give her collection of his art to the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec making it the best collection of his art in the world. This two-volume set is the first monograph on the artist who died in 1901 at the age of 36. Organized into paintings and more commercial works it offers a detailed overview of Toulouse-Lautrec's career and beautifully reproduces a great deal of his output. It is unusual to find them in their original glassines. 2 volumes 10.5'' x 8'' each. Original color pictorial wrappers. Original glassines.
