Large 4to sewn binding in Braque's own lithographic paper-over-board covers. Unpaginated with 20 full-page color lithographs many of wich were original creations for the Verve issue. FINE copy exceedingly clean and sharp with crisp clean pages and tight square binding; DJ edges worn with some tears now wrapped in mylar. From the colophon: 'The illustrations in this volume are reproduced from the sketch-books - carnets de travail - which Georges BRAQUE has been keeping up for thirty years and more and which constitute a daily record of fragments of the visible world that have caught his attention and ideas for paintings that have occurred to him. In fact the only difference between these sketch-books and the diaries kept by so many writers is that here the entries are not written but take the form of gouache or watercolor sketches. Hitherto Braque has always refused to make public these albums which be takes with him wherever be goes and which comprise the bulk of his work as a draftsman. Now at long last be has authorized the reproduction of a number of pages of these albums selected by himself with our co-operation. This book whose cover has been specially designed by Braque himself constitutes a double number 31-32 of VERVE in the French edition. The American Edition is published by HARCOURT BRACE and Company New York. It has been reproduced under the direction of Teriade by the Master Printers DRAEGER Frères as for the heliogravures in colors and in black and by MOURLOT Frères for the lithography in colors. Printing was completed in Paris 1955 on the 20th day of September.'. Harcourt, Brace and Company hardcover
