010434New York: American Studio Books. Wraps. Fair. no date circa 1946 based on OCLC records. Illustrated wraps. Large folio 17 by 13 inches. 13 leaves printed on single sides only. This includes the 12 color reproductions of woodblock prints preceded by a one page introduction by W.G. Russell Allen. Most of these were made in 1894 after Gauguin's return from his first trip to Tahiti. FAIR condition. Wrappers essentially separated into two pieces tenuously holding on at the upper hinge with all pages either SEPARATED from each other or very tenuously attached. Heavy tearing and creasing along the hinge and fore edge with some missing chips including one about 2 by ½ inches. Wrappers toned with a few minor stains and light soiling. At the age of fourteen he started his wandering around Europe getting to know some of the most influential avant-garde artists of the time such as Lajos Kassák Pablo Picasso Marc Chagall Henri Rousseau Tristan Tzara Hans Richter Chaim Soutine and Blaise Cendrars with whom they published the anarchist magazine “Les hommes nouveauxâ€. In 1915 in Zürich he got acquainted with the leaders of the communist movement Lenin and Trotsky. He published several books on artists and numerous articles and essays in various art magazines. Text in French. <br /> <br /> IDHEC was founded in Paris during World War II in order to offer training for virtually every aspect of film production. It counted a veritable who's who of prominent filmmakers among its graduates including Louis Malle Claire Denis Jean-Jacques Annaud Volker Schlöndorff Andrzej u awski and Costa-Gavras among many others. Resnais attended IDHEC for one year from 1943-1944 training as a film editor before leaving in 1945 for military service. <br /> <br /> "Gauguin" was part of an early series of documentary short films about artists created by Resnais between 1946 and 1953 preceded by "Van Gogh" 1949 winner of an Academy Award and followed by "Guernica" 1950 in collaboration with Robert Hessens.<br /> <br /> 8.25 x 10.75 inches.
