4347On the suggestion of friend and fellow photographer Robert Capa Duncan traveled to France to meet Picasso in 1956. Picasso would become a friend and the subject of seven photographic books. Their friendship lasted until Picasso's death. Picasso referred to Duncan as his "Ishmael" and Duncan called Picasso "Maestro." With photographs of Picasso and his dog taken in 1957 Duncan produced a photographic book on Picasso and his dachshund Lump titled "Picasso & Lump: A Dachshund's Odyssey" published in 2006. Our image is not included in the book. Note: Lump is German roughly translated into English as rascal or rogue. Framed in black wood with dark gray archival mat and conservation glass so that the photographer's stamp shows through a window on the back. One of 150 numbered copies on Vergé de Montval from a total edition of 180 numbered copies all signed on the justification by Pablo Picasso who contributed the three dry-points two of them portraits of Jacob and the lithographs. The textual illustrations are original woodcuts by Georges Aubert after drawings by Picasso. This collection of Jacob's essays was published as a tribute to him on what would have been the occasion of his 80th birthday. He wanted to design a ceramic form that could be produced in a small limited edition just as he would produce a print on paper.<br /><br />In 1953 Picasso met artist Jacqueline Roque at Madoura Pottery in Vallauris where she worked. Together they created his ceramics. In 1961 they married and moved to Mougins France where Picasso continued creating ceramics until his death in 1973.<br /><br />Annually he created a poster to advertise his show and sale of new ceramics. This run of posters included a small signed limited edition on special paper as here. Nicely framed. Picasso books

Picasso and Cocteau met in 1916 towards the end of World War I at the height of Picasso's synthetic cubism period. The period marked the first use of collage in the history of fine art and the series depicted highly geometric and minimalist Cubist objects mainly pipes guitars and glasses. Picasso and Cocteau would later collaborate on several projects including the present volume which offers an overarching collection of Picasso's diverse periods from Cubism to Picasso's late years. Folio 370 x 470 mm bound loose as issued in the original wrappers and vellum-covered slipcase. The whole preserved in a cloth folding box. Barcelona: Gustavo Gili and Ediciones de la Cometa 1969. A Spanish production in every sense in this Picasso book Picasso illustrated his own poetry based upon his life and youth in Andalucia. The title bears reference to the painting by El Greco an artist very much admired by Picasso. Picasso began this poem in 1957 during a period of renewed interest in his Spanish heritage. Included in the work is a facsimile of Picasso's original manuscript of the poem written in coloured pencils. To illustrate his autobiographical poetry the artist selected one of his engravings from 1939 and etchings finished between 1966 and 1967. Printed and published by the publishing house Gustavo Gili of Barcelona with a prologue-poem by Rafael Alberti El Entierro del Conde de Orgaz includes a total of thirteen Picasso etchings of circus scenes and allegorical images infused with eroticism all echoing the artist's Spanish homeland and influences therefrom. One of an edition of 263 copies on Romani wove. It is notable that the present publication was the subject of a single exhibition at the Fundacion Picasso "Pablo Ruiz Picasso: El Entierro del Conde de Orgaz" May 2004. Goeppert 146.
