This catalog was prepared to accompany the exhibition 'Picasso's Women: Fernande to Jacqueline a Tribute to John Richardson' at the Gagosian Gallery in New York from May 3 to June 29, 2019. John Richardson (1924- 2019) an art historian and intimate friend of Picasso and his wives and children, had recently passed away in March of 2019. The exhibition explored one of Richardson's favorite themes: how Picasso's portraits of his women, wives, mistresses and friends, illuminated his art and his creative process in general. Foreword by Larry Gagosian. Well known texts by John Richardson are reproduced here. In quell'anno Picasso visita per la prima volta il Museo etnografico del Trocadéro. Ne rimane colpito al punto da rimettere mano a Les Demoiselles d'Avignon e finire il quadro che rivoluzionerà la pittura del Novecento. Questo volume illustra come Picasso e gli artisti non occidentali si sono incontrati nell'espressione di arcaismi universali, come hanno esplorato il potere delle immagini e le forze dell'inconscio.

Per celebrare il centenario del viaggio di Pablo Picasso in Italia, a Napoli e Pompei in particolare, la Soprintendenza di Pompei promuove in collaborazione con il Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte una grande mostra dal titolo Picasso Parade. Napoli 1917 La curatela della mostra è di Sylvain Bellenger, direttore del Museo di Capodimonte, Emilia Philippot, del Musée Picasso Paris, e di Luigi Gallo Opera complessa e di capitale importanza per l'arte del Novecento, il sipario dipinto da Picasso per il balletto di Diaghilev sarà presentato a Napoli per la prima volta nella sala da ballo della reggia di Capodimonte. Insieme saranno presentati i bozzetti per la scena, mentre una scelta di opere dell'artista, provenienti da diverse collezioni pubbliche e private, chiarirà il percorso creativo di Picasso e la persistenza di alcuni motivi iconografici. Per approfondire il legame della composizione pittorica con le fonti folkloristiche napoletane, vi sarà un inedito confronto con l'arte presepiale napoletana, che Picasso vide durante la sua visita partenopea. A Pompei, nelle sale dell'Antiquarium, sono invece esposti i costumi del balletto, ideati da Picasso messi a confronto con i disegni preparatori (Musée Picasso Paris) e le fotografie e scattate in occasione della prima rappresentazione (Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris).
