Saggio relativo alle origini secentesche del paesaggismo declinato nelle tre scuole principali: fiamminga per lo studio del vero, veneta con Tiziano per lo studio del colore e del chiaroscuro, bolognese con Annibale Carracci, il quale, riassumendo le due tendenze precedenti, diede vita ai primi esempi di quel paesaggio che fu poi detto classico o italiano.
