027720New York; 1993: Rizzoli. Limited Edition. Large Quarto. Limited to 1000 copies. The present copy is number 471 435pp. illustrated 285 full color illustrations and 1276 in black and white. By comparing Spanish artist Joan Miro's finished paintings and sculptures with more than 1200 of his sketches and preparatory studies Gimferrer places Miro's art in a surprising new perspective. This intensive analysis of Miro's creative process explains how he would first isolate some element from the teeming outside world then incorporate a graphic sign into it thus setting in motion a transfigurative process in which objects signs and symbols underwent a constant metamorphosis in placing Miro's preliminary drawings alongside the 3 pictures to which they gave rise. Panish poet and art critic gimgerrer illuminates the inner academy by which Miro discovered his major motifs and set them loose in a free-floating pictorial universe. Bibliographic references pages 434-435. A fine coppy bound in black cloth spine lettering white in a fine dust jacket housed within publisher's lackluster card slipcase which has a few splits and bumps. Rizzoli unknown books

1947006771Curt Valentin 1947. Thin card portfolio. Very Good. 42 prints two of which are color stenciled by Miro. 28 by 21.5 cm. The prints are from the Barcelona series originally printed in a larger format in 1944 and 40 of these prints show the date of 1944 but we believe these are from three years later when Valentin printed a slightly abridged version from the original 50 in the series. There is no publisher or place indicated on the set here and this has caused some understandable confusion. Thus there is an OCLC listing of what we believe to be the same set with a given date of 1944. A complete set is uncommon in commerce surely because printsellers have sold off the plates individually and one can find individual black and white plates from this group on offer nowadays for several hundred dollars and the color stencil plates for north of $1000. Condition: the red folio has some fading to its color and other moderate wear. A former owner's name is written with ink in small letters on a holding flap. Light age toning to some of the plates. <br /> [Curt Valentin] books
