Laid in to this copy is a trifold brochure for an exhibition of Ramos Martinez's work presented at the Dalzell Hatfield Galleries in Los Angeles in October-November 1975; although not explicitly stated anywhere it seems likely that this also provided the occasion for the publication of this book. I believe this was the first and may still be the only full-length book about the artist published in English. Rios Rey started his artistic career in 1939 and with government support he traveled to Mexico during the 1960s where he studied the Mexican muralists and was strongly impressed by the narrative quality of the mural.
