Una così evidente fascinazione nei confronti della civiltà italica ha prodotto una vera miniera archivistica, iconografica e stilistica attraverso la quale interpretare non solo la pittura, ma anche il sistema di rapporti diplomatici e di relazione che Rubens perseguì nel corso di tutta la vita.
