Elephant folio unpaginated 24 engraved plates including 3 double plates plus the title page and "avertissement" 29 leaves in total. Lacking the engraved frontispiece titled "Pierre Paul Rubens". In Good condition. Bound in full brown leather with gilt ornamentation to edges. Paneled spine with a black label and gilt ornamentation. Spine has a loss of leather to the head and tail edges significant chipping throughout impacting the legibility of the label and cracking to joints. Boards have bumping to corners primarily to the rear bottom fore corner the leather is tearing and beginning to separate from the board along the front bottom fore corner moderate chipping to edges rubbing wear and discoloration to surfaces and cracking to leather throughout. Textblock has an archival repair to the bottom corner of the first double spread plate leaf 16 a small ink drawing to leaf 23 minor splitting to the gutter throughout occasional closed tears and wear to edges not impacting illustrations light foxing to some pages and age toning throughout. Some plates have tissue guards present. Contains a loose engraved plate reproduction of the painting "The Denial of Saint Peter" originally by Gerard Seghers laid in along the rear free end pages c. 17th century. Text in French.
