Lambden" publisher's and music-seller's stamps to title. Very good. A First World War recruiting song dedicated "by special permission to Her Majesty the Queen" and issued in aid of Queen Mary's Work for Women Fund with a note that profits from sales were devoted to that cause. Words and music are by Paul A. Rubens 1875-1917 one of the most successful British songwriters of the Edwardian and early wartime period whose patriotic and theatrical songs were widely performed in music halls and drawing rooms. The cover design is by John Hassall 1868-1948 one of the leading British poster artists of the period here adapting the visual language of the famous "Kitchener Wants You" poster to a female figure arms outstretched appealling to men to sign up. The lyrics support the recruitment drive with patriotic obligation "Oh we don't want to lose you but we think you ought to go / For your King and Country both need you so!". A scarce survivor of wartime propaganda with the early striking Hassall cover design. . Very Good. Soft cover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1914. Chappell and Co. Ltd paperback

Marcellin Berthelot sometimes spelled Marcelin born on October 25 1827 in Paris where he died on March 18 1907 is a French chemist physical chemist biologist epistemologist and politician. The fundamental conception that underlay all Berthelot's chemical work was that all chemical phenomena depend on the action of physical forces which can be determined and measured. When he began his active career it was generally believed that although some instances of the synthetic production of organic substances had been observed on the whole organic chemistry remained an analytical science and could not become a constructive one because the formation of the substances with which it deals required the intervention of vital activity in some shape. He made significant contributions to the field through his translations and analyses of Greek Syriac and Arabic treatises on chemistry and alchemy. His research into these historical Arabic texts allowed him to distinguish between different traditions of practical and theoretical alchemy and provided deeper insights into the origins and development of chemistry. <br /> From the personal library collection of Brian Cotnoir alchemist artist and award-winning filmmaker.
