Brossura editoriale con titolo in rosso e nero con bellissimo fregio animato al alto del titolo (una piccolissima strisciolina di carta mancante la margine bianco lato del piatto anteriore fatto per togliere un'antica firma di appartenenza). Qualche leggerissima e non fastidiosa ingiallitura dovuta alla qualità della carta. Nata a Milano nel 1846 trascorse la sua infanzia e adolescenza nel paese bergamasco di Caravaggio al quiale rimase legata sentimentalemente per tutta la vita. Caratteristica della scrittrice è l'accento sull'esigenza di una più profonda spiritualità come risposta al materialismo dilagante dell'epoca in cui visse. Neera si mantenne sempre attenta a non avvicinarsi troppo al femminismo ed al sentimentalismo radicali tanto da essere considerata una antifemminista. Letture moderne tendono invece a collocare il pensiero dell'autrice come complementare al femminismo e non in contrapposizione con esso. Fu scrittrice apprezzata da grandi critici come Croce o Luigi Capuana. Croce scrisse di lei: "Quan'abbondanza di pensieri e di affetti nei libri di Neera: a lei bastava aprire le chiuse dell'anima perchè ne prorompesse un'onda copiosa e calda... sentiva meditava come respirava nello stesso modo, senza sforzo". Le sue opere vennero tradotte in varie lingue adgli stessi taduttori che traducevano d'Annunzio e Fogazzaro. Raro a trovarsi completo della brossura editoriale.

br. Tre destini accomunati da una vocazione eretica hanno trovato nella città eterna il luogo iniziatico, il punto di non ritorno per esistenze segnate da luci e ombre, votate alla ricerca disperata quanto tenace della verità, prefigurazione di una morte annunciata. Roma ha significato per Caravaggio il successo e la notorietà ma nello stesso tempo l'inizio di una vita violenta fatta di zuffe, processi e rifiuti di opere d'arte non allineate ai dettami controriformistici: di qui la leggenda del pittore maledetto. La città assume una forte valenza simbolica anche per Giordano Bruno, il quale nell'isola domenicana della "Minerva" rinuncia allo status religioso, consapevole di quanta ipocrisia vi fosse nei custodi dell'ortodossia cattolica. "Roma matrigna" segna il destino del filosofo, che trascorre gli ultimi sette anni della sua travagliata peregrinatio esistenziale nelle carceri dell'Inquisizione romana. Egli ingaggia con i giudici un duello mortale, degno di una drammaturgia tragica, la cui catastrofe avrà luogo nella medesima piazza di Campo de' Fiori che vedrà sfilare nel novembre 1975 il feretro di Pier Paolo Pasolini. Questi arriva a Roma come Caravaggio dal lontano nord, restando affascinato dal sottoproletariato delle borgate, custode ancora incontaminato della sacralità della vita. Anche per lui processi, persecuzioni e la condanna a morte decretata da un potere osceno, del quale il poeta stava squarciando, in modo simile al prodigio della luce caravaggesca, le ombre profonde.

Questa è la più propizia, perché l'apparizione dell'Ecce Homo a Madrid è stata accompagnata da un coro di consensi senza precedenti per un'opera apparsa dal nulla. Non capitava da tempo che un dipinto mettesse d'accordo gli studiosi, imponendosi con una evidenza inequivocabile, e questo ci fa riflettere su ciò che resta, allo stato degli studi, a partire dalla mostra di Caravaggio curata da Roberto Longhi a Palazzo Reale di Milano nel 1951, vero atto di rinascita di Caravaggio dopo una damnatio memoriae durata circa tre secoli. Da questa data, il 1951, il nome di Caravaggio si infiamma ancora una volta, accendendo i desideri del mercato e dei critici, che si affannano a individuarne di nuovi, anche laddove, essi, Caravaggio non sono. E a disconoscerne altri che Caravaggio potrebbero essere, a volte anche con grande furbizia. Questo libro di Vittorio Sgarbi, dunque, non solo dà conto, per la prima volta, in modo molto sistematico, documentato e con un ricco apparato iconografico, dell'ultimo straordinario ritrovamento caravaggesco, l'Ecce Homo, a Madrid. Ma è anche l'occasione di percorrere un viaggio avventuroso ed entusiasmante nei labirinti, rivalità, furbizie che hanno accompagnato la riscoperta di Caravaggio, a partire da quel fatidico 1951, settanta anni fa esatti.

Each Plate Has Small Glue Marks On Reverse Where They Were Tipped In To An Album. Stefano Mulinari 1741-Circa 1790 Studied Printmaking Techniques Under A. Scacciati. He Then Worked As An Assistant To This Master Engraving A Series Of Plates Based Upon Old Master Drawings In The Florentine Collection. This Series Consisted Of One Hundred Plates. Upon The Death Of Scacciati Mulinari Completed The Remaining Sixty Engravings By Himself And Secured A Strong Reputation For His Art Which Combined Etching Engraving And Aquatinting Usually In Sepia Tones. Mulinari Devoted Himself To Engraving Drawings From The Italian Renaissance. In 1775 He Published A Set Of Fifty Engravings Dealing With The Art Of The Earliest Masters. This Was Followed In 1780 By A Series Depicting The Paintings And Drawings Of The Great Italian Schools Entitled Saggio Delle Cinque Scuole Di Pittura Italiana. Outstanding Etchings After The Designs Of Leonardo Raphael Caravaggio Parmigiano And Guercino Were Created By Mulinari.
