Quelques rousseurs, petite mouillure dans la marge de la couverture brochée, sinon bon état.

Imprimerie de Louis Perrin Lyon 1861 36 x 27 cm Reliure de l'éditeur First edition of this rare album illustrated with 15 line-engraved plates each protected by a tissue guard and accompanied by a caption leaf including a reproduction of the author's portrait drawn by Ingres in Rome in 1818. Publisher's original full grey boards flat spine without lettering some rubbing blind-ruled borders on covers a scratch to the foot of the upper cover central title corners rubbed. Some foxing. Inscribed by Antoine-Marie Chenavard to his friend Antonin L. with the author's signed presentation note. The plates based on drawings by the Lyon-born architect Chenavard 17871883 depict various views of Roman Neapolitan and Sicilian monuments: 1. Portrait of the author at the time of his journey to Italy facsimile after a drawing made in Rome by Ingres in 1818. 2. View of Lake Maggiore from Arona. 3. Contemporary green half sheepskin binding with corners spine with four raised bands framed by dotted rolls gilt double fillets and floral tools triple gilt fillet border on green paper-covered boards gilt title to upper board marbled endpapers contemporary binding. Some rubbing to spine corners restored. A handsome copy. Author's copy with inkstamp to the title-page. Copy enriched with two additional plates Imprimerie de Louis Perrin Lyon 1858 35 x 51.5 cm Relié First edition illustrated with 81 engraved plates drawn by Antoine-Marie Chenavard and engraved on steel by various artists comprising: a route map a plan of Athens and 79 plates numbered I to LXXV including plates XXVIIIbis XLVIIIbis these two not listed in the table LVIbis and LVIIbis. Cf. Blackmer 334. Atabey 230. Brunet II 1831. Each plate is accompanied by a leaf of explanatory text. Plates LIX and LX are transposed in this copy. Bound in modern half green sheep with corners spine with four raised bands decorated with black fillets black sheep lettering-piece and authors name sides covered in almond-green felted paper a scratch to the lower cover. The leaves are mounted on cloth guards the preliminary leaves with some marginal soiling a few light dampstains in the margins of certain pages all leaves with marginal sunning. ""First and only Edition. Brunet states that only 200 copies were printed. Chenavard had intended to produce this work in parts of 40 livraisons with 4 plates in each see advert. at end of 1846 Relation which would result in 160 plates. Half the number actually appeared after drawings by Chenavard and Rey both The Voyage en Grèce 1858 is sometimes referred to as the 'atlas' to the second Édition of the Relation which apppeared in 1849 under a similar title. It is in fact an independent publication which contains a summary account of the journey made by Chenavard Rey and Dalgabio in 1843-4 and is of great importance for the many views it contains of Athens 27 Delphi and Ithaca. Sagot (en majorité), Chenavard, Tony Johannot, etc., gravés sur bois, la vignette de titre est identique pour les quatre volumes.
