An outstanding signed autograph letter from celebrated painter Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres 1780-1867 to Jean-Jacques Berger 1790-1859 prefect of the Seine in which Ingres recommends the services of his notable student Pierre-Auguste Pichon 1805-1900 who would go on to become rather well known. About a hundred words written neatly in brown ink on fine wove writing paper. Signed by Ingres and dated April 2 1851. Ingres and Pichon had collaborated on the famous portrait of Ferdinand-Philippe the Duke of Orléans in the Château de Fontainebleau. Pichon would go on to decorate many French public buildings both civil and religious with his paintings. With the red stamp denoting reception by the prefecture. Photographer's advertisement on verso at the address on boulevard des Italiens. Fine print. This sitting at Disdéri's studio produced several photographs of the painter with slightly different poses.
