1930WRCLIT60365Paris: Librairie Stock Delamain et Boutelleu 1930. Quarto. Original printed wrappers. Illustrated with six full-page original lithographs as well as ornaments and letters by the author. Foxing at edges and a few places in text wrapper lightly dusty a few small nicks to wrappers and a short tear at top of lower joint otherwise a very good copy. 1930007660Paris: Librairie Stock. Delamain et Boutelleau 1930. Limited Edition. Wraps. Slipcase. Chemise. Near Fine/Slipcase chemise: Fair. No. 220 of a total of 320 copies issued this one in a lower tranche on Velin d'Arches paper. 4to. 203 2 pp. Six plates of Vlaminck artwork. Plates counted in pagination. The book has a few stray fox marks including on the fore-edge. The ones on the fore-edge encroach onto the far edge of the flat part of the page as a slight rounded stain. But for the small number of fox marks anywhere and because the fox marks that are present in total seem relatively minor to us the book proper is in fine condition. Indeed with the wax paper dust jacket the book looks virtually untouched. The slipcase and chemise are another matter. The slipcase has fallen apart completely. We have all the pieces -- there is no loss whatsoever but the slipcase needs to be rebuilt. The chemise is intact having been repaired along its edges somewhat amateurishly. The tape used is visible along its outer edges for example and the marbled paper along these edges needs some attending to to secure it back onto the chemise boards. Librairie Stock. 1930000199
Limited edition of Maurice de Vlaminck's autobiographical text this being no. 133 from a total edition of 320.

Description: Publisher's wrappers titled in black. Quarto: 28.5 × 23 cm; pp. 202 2. With initials ornaments and 6 original lithographs by Vlaminck.

Condition: Binding in very good condition despite some minor creases. Internally quite fresh and clean some foxing as usual to margins and edges. Overall a well-preserved copy.

Notes: Maurice de Vlaminck 1876–1958 was probably as great a writer as he was an artist. In his most important autobiographical work Tournant Dangereux Dangerous Corner he describes his path and his relationship to art in evocative texts based on a car journey. His credo was: "If you are a painter look only at yourself". What counts for him is reality in its historical moment. For him painting is the language of feelings. "I struck all the notes and translated all the feelings I could perceive into an orchestration of pure colours. I was a tender barbarian full of violence". The French poet and art critic Guillaume Apollinaire once described Vlaminck as "one of the most talented painters of his generation. His simple and intense technique" Apollinaire wrote "allows the lines their full freedom the volumes their full relief and the colours their full clarity their full beauty". Vlaminck illustrated Tournant Dangereux with six beautiful lithographs characteristic of the Fauvist landscape painter.
Librairie Stock paperback
