Tiny convent name/address inkstamp and pencilled ownership signature on title page; couple pencilled notes on rear inner flyleaf from early owner. A nice early printing of as title page subtitles it "Seoame's Neuman and Baretti Abridged by Velazquez" a thick dictionary offered "In Two Parts: I. Spanish-English. II. English-Spanish" -- part I being the first 456 pages Part II with second title page in Spanish the remainder. Velazquez 1778-1860 was a pioneering Mexican grammarian scholar and author long-time Professor of Spanish Language and Literature at Columbia College in New York 1830-60 and his dictionaries became the model for Spanish-English dictionaries. Title page also bears inked ownership signature of W. Ormsby Watts who was a CSA ordnance officer under General Tilghman with Loring's Division in the Army of the Tennessee during the Civil War.
