An early French translation of 'Observations on Man his Frame his Duty and his Expectations' under the title 'De L'Homme De Ses Facultés Physiques et Intellectuelles'.Complete in two volumes. The influential work written by British philosopher David Hartley. Originally published in 1749 this important set presents Hartley's principal theories surrounding the connection between the human body and the mind as well as the overall duty of mankind. Hartley's theories paved the way for future philosophers commencing the modern study of the connection between the brain and "the mind". A popular work this was translated into a number of languages. This particular French edition was translated by R. A. Sicard. With a pictorial bookplate of Bibl Hammen Stockholm. Bound in full tree calf with gilt detailing. Externally sound with rubbing to the extremities and joints. Front joint to volume II is cracked with the board tender. Small crack to the head of the rear joint to II and the front joint to I. Front hinge to I and rear hinge to II are slightly strained but holding firm. A little loss to the head of each spine. Bookplate to front paste down. Internally firmly bound.
