Petites usures au mors et aux coins. L’Histoire du chevalier Des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut, aujourd’hui plus communément appelé Manon Lescaut. Le livre étant jugé scandaleux à deux reprises (1733 et 1735), saisi et condamné à être brûlé, l’auteur publie en 1753, une nouvelle édition de Manon Lescaut revue, corrigée et augmentée d’un épisode important. Les qualités humaines du roman séduisirent rapidement le public et en feront la célébrité.

As not everything was by the same hand there is some diversity of style coloring literalism of course. Included is an original subscription or order form for the book. It would appear that the book was sold in part or perhaps entirely through direct sales spearheaded by the Crown Princess and conducted by aristocratic women at least in some measure. Vol.1 : 'English Scottish & Welsh Landscape Verse' chosen by John Betjeman and Geoffrey Taylor with lithographs by John Piper. The BOOK is in Very Good or better condition. The WRAPPER is neatly price-clipped and is in Very Good condition with small losses to the spine ends. Vol.2 : 'The Poets Eye' anthology chosen by Geoffrey Grigson with 16 lithographs by John Craxton. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. The WRAPPER is complete and also is in like near Fine condition with some light age related markings to the rear panel. This title is the scarcest of the set to find with its wrapper in such collectible condition. Many copies have been broken up with the striking lithographs having been sold separately some for very high prices.
