The first English edition first published in the original French in 1871 under the title 'Less Communeux 1871. Types Caracteres Costumes'. Illustrated by Bertall with forty hand coloured plates. Collated complete. A collection of illustrations from the renowned French illustrator and caricaturist from Charles Albert D'Arnoux otherwise known as 'Bertall'. The work provides a series of observations of communists in Paris with descriptions. While the work was not primarily political with Bertall claiming he had no political bias the illustrations are considered to be propagandistic depicting communists in a negative light.
