First edition No. 2 of 250 copies of the “Sub Rosa Edition†of this curious anthology of erotic poetry and verse some attributed to James Clarence Harvey perhaps best remembered for his “In Bohemia†issued by Caldwell as “Gift Books for Men.†The illustrations were executed by Alphonse Mucha Lilien Laitin Angell Albert Guillaume Belle Epoque caricaturist and others. At the time of publication Mucha was teaching his “Cours Mucha†at the New York Women’s School of Applied Design and at the Art Institute in Chicago. Henry Stikeman was one of the premier American fine binders from the 1880s through to World War I and during his heyday produced a stunningly large volume of high quality work.
