Elle paraît à Paris le 20 décembre 1899, juste avant le basculement dans le nouveau siècle.</span><br><span>Sous la forme d'un livre qui illustre la prière Notre Père, Mucha y inscrit un message pour les générations futures. Il développe une pensée humaniste en décrivant la progression de l'humanité, de l'obscurité de l'ignorance vers les états supérieurs de la spiritualité et de la vérité. La prière est découpée en sept phrases : chacune d'entre elles est reproduite, puis commentée et enfin illustrée par l'artiste.</span><br><span>Les planches de l'ouvrage, numérisées depuis l'exemplaire original conservé à la Fondation Mucha, sont reproduites ici intégralement dans une qualité exceptionnelle. En introduction, plusieurs textes de spécialistes permettent d'appréhender Le Pater dans son ensemble et d'en saisir les enjeux. On y découvre d'abord, par l'essai de Tomoko Sato, une contextualisation de l'œuvre et une analyse détaillée de son importance dans la carrière de Mucha. Jacob Sadilek en offre ensuite une lecture d'un point de vue franc-maçonnique.
