This way Hugo facilitated the upcoming seizure of power and proclamation of Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte as president on December 10 1848. A month before on November 4 1848 a section in the Constitution had been changed guaranteeing freedom of the press. Original lithograph by Honore Daumier published in Paris in December 1848.
