1960264983Dore Schary 1960. Trade Paperback. 107 pages on 2 act play printed on recto only. Adapted from the novel by Morris West part of his 'Vatican' sequence. Dore Schary wrote produced and directed the play which ran for 116 performances at the Billy Rose Theatre in 1961. Schary was playwright director and producer for stage and a prolific screenwriter and producer of motion pictures. He was president of MGM studios in the 1950s. In his memory the Anti-Defamation League established the Dore Schary Awards in 1982. Very good copy in red folder brad bound on side. Noted on title page to be the script for one of the actors in the play. Folder is creased at edges and near bound margin.<br> Dore Schary paperback

We find no record that the script was filmed. Provenance: from the estate of literary agent H.N. Swanie Swanson. Schary 1905-1980 born August 31 1905 Newark New Jersey; died July 7 1980 New York New York; American writer/producer of films; winner of the Best Screenplay Academy Award for "Boys' Town" 1938; producer at MGM 1941-1945; head of production at RKO 1945-48; head of production at MGM 1948-1956; independent producer thereafter. Swanson 1900-91 one of the nation's most famous literary agents; known in the industry as "Swanie"; wrote and produced a handful of films after David O. Selznick saw his work in College Humor; he opened an office on Sunset Boulevard in 1934 and at one time his clients included Raymond Chandler William Faulkner James M. Cain Ayn Rand Cornell Woolrich Budd Schulberg S.J.
