Original pink soft covers are bound in. These are in good shape but with a crease to one corner. Internally clean and tidy throughout with light darkening to the pages. Each has a portrait of personalities in Paris and Versailles during the Franco-Prussian war and the Commune. Attractive caricatures. Some in blue tint. "When Gustave Doré left Paris during the Commune April-May 1871 he was received at Versailles as well as his mother by old friends and was kind enough to leave them as a souvenir of his stay these witty sketches filled with humour mixed with profound observation under the pleasant mask that he lent to the different types reproduced by his inexhaustible imagination" from the preliminary note by L. Bruyère. The work includes a preface by Gabriel Hanotaux and is divided into three themes: The National Assembly in 1871 the Commune and the Judiciary. vi 98 leaves ii. containing 95 plates printed to one side only. 29.5cm x 20.5cm. . We find no record that the script was filmed. Provenance: from the estate of literary agent H.N. Swanie Swanson. Schary 1905-1980 born August 31 1905 Newark New Jersey; died July 7 1980 New York New York; American writer/producer of films; winner of the Best Screenplay Academy Award for "Boys' Town" 1938; producer at MGM 1941-1945; head of production at RKO 1945-48; head of production at MGM 1948-1956; independent producer thereafter. Swanson 1900-91 one of the nation's most famous literary agents; known in the industry as "Swanie"; wrote and produced a handful of films after David O.
