201324071London England: Harvill Secker 2013. First Edition. First Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket. London England: Harvill Secker 2013. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 525 pages. The second volume of the author's "My Struggle" six-volume novel. The first appearance of the title in English and in the United Kingdom. The translation is published in the United Kingdom as "A Man In Love" and also as part of the British "My Struggle" six-volume cycle. It's the other way around in the United States where "My Struggle" takes precedence over the individual volumes. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only that sold out shortly after publication. The First Edition is now rare. The production values of the British Edition are superior in every respect to its American counterpart. Presents Karl Ove Knausgaard's "Min Kamp" Volume Two in a felicitous English translation. This man in love. What is the significance of Karl Ove Knausgaard's "My Struggle" It is the most full-fledged break from the mannerism academicism post-modernism and all the other pretentious and tired isms of our time. It confirms the arrival of a major and original voice in world literature writing in deceptively simple yet eloquent prose without crutches. It rejects our obsession with "celebrity lives" by focussing on the tiniest details of one man's ordinary life as well as deeply painful struggle. An absolute "must-have" title for Karl Ove Knausgaard collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed placed and dated shortly before publication in blue ink-pen on the title page by the author: "Vancouver 21/10/12 Karl Ove Knausgaard". It is signed directly on the page itself not on a tipped-in page. This title is a great book. This is one of very few such signed placed and pre-publication dated copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing British still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean crisp and bright. It is the single most beautiful signed copy of the book we have ever seen. After all "A Man In Love" is the rarest - and arguably the best - title of the Series. Please note: Copies available online have very serious flaws or are in multiple subsequent printings. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. SEE ALSO OTHER KARL OVE KNAUSGAARD TITLES IN OUR CATALOG. ISBN 1846554691. Harvill Secker hardcover

023240No Binding. Near Fine. Publisher: John Bartlett. Large light brown cloth boards measuring 8" x 5" Gilt and blindstamped. The edges are uniformly sunned with light wear to the ends remarkably nice condition for these covers which are commonly found disbound and/or in rough shape. Map and Illustration sheet measures 17" x 15". Map has a professionally mended tear along the central crease. Another short tear at the tip-in junction likely from a careless opening of the map. Otherwise map is near fine with none of the usual foxing and very little edge wear. Etchings by Wallis from Champney drawings are also in near fine condition. A favorite of mine the Franconia Lake scene is quite lovely in its simplistic beauty with a small dingy and pair of sightseers. The Bond map with the Champney views is to be considered a cornerstone to any collection of such material. As according to Bent The five lithographed views after Champney are printed on the reverse of the map. Map sheet is printed on thicker paper than is noted on the more common printing included in B. Willey's History 1856. In the past 30 years or so as a book dealer here in the White Mountains I have seen perhaps 8 examples of the larger two formats this variation most of the time. References; Apt Maps of the White Mountains of New Hampshire; Bent's Bibliography of the White Mountains; Cobb Maps of New Hampshire to 1900; Historical New Hampshire Vol. 51 No's 3&4 1996 Beauty Caught and Kept: Benjamin Champney in the White Mountains. Many photos available on request. Incidently pun intended the title 'Incidents in White Mountain History'by Willey Rev. Ben. also a cornerstone classic used the 5 Champney lithoss and the Bond map for illustrative purposes though the Map is printed on much lighter paper as previously mentioned. It is likely that Willey Champney and Bond were all acquaintances if not friends even though the good Reverend Willey was the senior by about a quarter century.

unknown
