201422200London England: Harvill Secker 2014. First Edition. First Printing. Hardcover. As New/As New Dust Jacket. London England: Harvill Secker 2014. Hardcover. As New/As New. First Edition/First Printing. 395 pages. The third volume of the author's "My Struggle" six-volume novel. The first appearance of the title in English and in the United Kingdom. The translation is published in the United Kingdom as "Boyhood Island" and also as part of the British "My Struggle" six-volume cycle. It's the other way around in the United States where "My Struggle" takes precedence over the individual volumes. Published in a regular first print run as a hardcover original that sold out shortly after publication. The First Edition is now rare. The production values of the British Edition are superior in every respect to its American counterpart. Presents Karl Ove Knausgaard's "Min Kamp" Volume Three in a felicitous English translation. Painful rather than idyllic childhood memories. What is the significance of Karl Ove Knausgaard's "My Struggle" It is the most full-fledged break from the mannerism academicism post-modernism and all other pretentious and tired isms of our time. It confirms the arrival of a major and original voice in world literature writing in deceptively simple yet eloquent prose without crutches. It rejects our obsession with "celebrity lives" by focussing on the tiniest details of one man's ordinary life as well as deeply painful struggle. An absolute "must-have" title for Karl Ove Knausgaard collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed placed and dated shortly after publication in black pen-marker on the title page by the author: "London 23/5/14 Karl Ove Knausgaard". It is signed directly on the page itself not on a tipped-in page. It should also be noted that this copy has his FULL signature which is the way he signed the first three volumes of "My Struggle" when they first came out. This title is a great book. This is one of few such signed placed and post-publication dated copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing British still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean crisp and bright. Please note: Extreme demand and time constraint have made Knausgaard resort to an Ondaatje-like swirl of a signature. Copies signed in this drastically abbreviated way have no collectible value. A rare signed copy thus. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. SEE ALSO OTHER KARL OVE KNAUSGAARD TITLES IN OUR CATALOG. ISBN 1846557224. Harvill Secker hardcover

1888WRCAM26356San Francisco 1888. 4;45pp. Dbd. Good. Washington A. Bartlett a former governor of California was dropped unceremoniously from the Navy amidst a veritable flurry of accusations in 1855. He appealed for restoration years later since he was out of the country at the time of discharge systematically proving each charge false and thus was restored in glory. The legal brief is a list of the charges and the final conclusion to sustain his restoration; it calls the original decision of the court to discharge Bartlett "an evil influence moved by a powerful enemy." The memorial is a lengthy testament to Bartlett's character and is endorsed by the "Society of California Pioneers" of which Bartlett was an active member. It was used as evidence in the court. unknown books
