Two vintage double weight publicity photographs of Joseph Schildkraut at his home one featuring his then wife Elise Bartlett by photographer Ray Jones 1929 each with mimeo snipes studio stamps crediting photographer Jones and "1929" date stamps on the versos and one with an additional provenance and collation stamp on the verso.<br /> <br /> From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1 1901 Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935 where he worked well into the 1950s.<br /> <br /> Austrian-American actor Joseph Schildkraut appeared in 66 films from 1915 to 1965 and is best known for his Academy Award-winning performance in "The Life of Emile Zola" 1937 and as Otto Frank in "The Diary of Anne Frank" 1959. Schildkraut was married to actress stage and screen actress Elise Bartlett from 1923 to 1930. <br /> <br /> 8 x 10 inches. One photograph with tiny scratches to the upper left else Near Fine. The first in the lower corner of an autograph letter sent to Bartlett from Seymour Halpern the second addressed to Doctor Knut Rasmussen. corners clipped on the second folds and a few creases on first else very good. Halpern wrote to Bartlett regarding a previous invitation to visit the "Morrissey" saying that he is ready to go and when is Bartlett ready for him. Bartlett replied that he could come the following Saturday. Bartlett the noted Newfoundland-born Arctic explorer who was with the Peary expedition in 1897-89 commanded the "Roosevelt" on its Arctic voyage in 1905 to 1909. He served on the Canadian government Arctic expeditions in 1913 and 1914 and several subsequently to Greenland Alaska the Arctic Ocean Siberia and Labrador. The "Morrissey" was his schooner now called "Ernestina" and now the official vessel of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Built in Essex Massachusetts she reached within 600 miles of the North Pole with Bartlett to whom she was sold in 1914. The second note reminds the doctor to put a 5 cent stamp on the letter. Provenance: From the collection of Seymour Halpern who was a Representative from New York. From 1931 to 1933 he was a reporter and feature writer for the Long Island Daily Press and the Chicago Herald Examiner.
