19234615Paris 1923. Paris: 1923. A lovely hand coloured pochoir taken from the "Album le Nouveau Monde." Second series Published in 1923. A group of cynical looking society people. Nice print. The colours are bright. These pochoirs were printed with some colour and were hand finished. moderate edge wear with some small closed tears and slight nicking to the edge of the sheet slight marking otherwise. Clean but with a touch of foxing to the verso. The original album consisted of 38 plates. 510 by 325mm 20 by 12¾ inches. A copy of this print is held in the wonderful Les Musées de la ville de Paris. Inventory: G.37025. SEM - Georges Goursat 1863–1934 was a French caricaturist famous during the Belle Époque. As well as the caricatures which made him famous he created work in a very different style as a correspondent during World War I. His later work was very influenced by the "Jazz Age" and high society in Paris during the 1920's. . Paris 1923. Un joli pochoir coloré à la main extrait de l'"Album le Nouveau Monde". Deuxième série publié en 1923. Un groupe de mondains à l'air cynique. Belle impression. Les couleurs sont vives. Ces pochoirs étaient imprimés avec quelques couleurs et finis à la main. Usure modérée des bords avec quelques petites déchirures fermées et de légères entailles sur le bord de la feuille légères marques par ailleurs. Propre mais avec un peu de rousseur au verso. L'album original comprenait 38 planches. 510 par 325mm 20 par 12¾ pouces. Une copie de cette estampe est conservée dans les merveilleux Musées de la ville de Paris. Inventaire : G.37025. 19194741Paris 1919. A lovely hand coloured pochoir taken from the "Album Le Grand Monde à l'Envers." Second series Published in 1919. Sem published this album immediately after the war. When the creation of Income Tax had terrified the wealthy Sem had imagined the great and the good of this world reduced to small jobs each in his own speciality. In the Café de l'Opera two gentleman in evening dress perform "hunt the ball" tricks. Below is a large man beside his bicycle watching the beach. To the reverse a lady is renting out bathing costumes. There is also a man on a bike selling L'Avenir and a gentleman selling Le Gaulois. Nice print. The colours are bright. These pochoirs were printed with some colour and were hand finished. A good clean sheet slight marking only. 52 by 33 cm. Lorsque la création de l'impôt sur le revenu avait terrifié les riches Sem avait imaginé les grands et les bons de ce monde réduits à de petits métiers chacun dans sa spécialité. Au Café de l'Opéra deux messieurs en tenue de soirée exécutent des tours de "chasse au ballon". En contrebas un grand homme surveille la plage à côté de sa bicyclette. À l'opposé une dame loue des maillots de bain. On voit également un homme à vélo qui vend L'Avenir et un homme qui vend Le Gaulois. Belle impression. Les couleurs sont vives. Ces pochoirs étaient imprimés avec de la couleur et finis à la main. Une bonne feuille propre avec de légères marques. 52 x 33 cm. Un exemplaire de cette estampe se trouve dans les merveilleux Musées de la ville de Paris. Printer's device on title-page. First edition of this historical drama in 3 acts on the captivating and shocking life of Caterina Sforza. Minor creasing and chipping along edges of glassine. Previous owner's inscription on free front endpaper. Text in Italian. Glassine in overall good wraps and interior in very good condition. Caterina Sforza Countess of Forlì early 1463 – 28 May 1509 was an Italian noblewoman the illegitimate daughter of Galeazzo Maria Sforza Duke of Milan and Lucrezia Landriani the wife of the courtier Gian Piero Landriani a close friend of the Duke. Raised in the refined Milanese court pre-eminent among European courts of the 15th century Caterina later held the titles of Lady of Imola and Countess of Forlì by her marriage to Girolamo Riario. She was also the Regent for her first-born son Ottaviano. The descendant of a dynasty of noted condottieri Caterina at an early age distinguished herself by her bold and impetuous actions taken to safeguard her possessions from possible usurpers and to uphold the military defence of her states when they were involved in the myriad political intrigues that were a distinguishing feature of 15th century Italy. In her private life Caterina was devoted to various activities among which were experiments in alchemy and a love of hunting and dancing. She had a large number of children of whom only the youngest Captain Giovanni dalle Bande Nere inherited the forceful militant character of his mother. Following her resistance to him she had to face the vindictive fury of Cesare Borgia who took Caterina as his prisoner. Upon regaining her liberty following her imprisonment in Rome she led a quiet life in Florence.
