A charming volume exploring the history of Chateau de Fontainebleu one of the largest French royal chateaux. A medieval castle and subsequent palace which served as a residence for the French monarchs from Louis VII to Napoleon III it became a national museum in 1927 and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981 for the beautiful unique architecture and historical importance. By Leon Deroy in the original French. Illustrated with sixteen full page plates. Collated complete. In the original publisher's decorative wraps. With a home made dust wrapper with the bookseller's sticker internally to the rear wrap. Acquired from the sale of Paul Gallico's library American novelist and short story and spots writer best remembered for The Snow Goose and The Poseidon Adventure. In the original publisher's decorative wraps. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only. Internally. firmly bound with the hinges only slightly tender to page 1. The pages are bright and clean only minor faint spotting to the fore edge affecting the occasional margin and leaf faintly. Illustrated with sixteen full page plates. Collated complete.
