Poulbot 1879 - 1946 was a well-known affichiste celebrated for both his World War One posters and postcards and for his illustrations of Parisian street kids which are front and center of this self-published collection of cartoons. Cover has light soiling and creased corners. Upper spine tip missing -- about 1/4 inch or 1 cm gone. Pages are cut very unevenly as was intended and these are clean. <br/><br/> By the author. Poulbot takes a look at Parisienne street children and adults during World War I. Poulbot 1879-1946 was a French offichiste literally "poster designer" draughtsman and illustrator. Leaving to fight on the Front in 1914 he was sent back to Paris a year later. During the First World War his patriotic posters and postcards led to the Nazis putting him under house arrest during World War II. This book is a collection of his drawings of children and adults during World War I. The French term "poulbot" refers to illustrations representing Parisian "titis" or street children. Poulbot died in Paris on 16 September 1946 and was buried in Montemartre Cemetery. With an interesting note of the front endpaper: "John Hoar. Paris 1918. The message below translates as: 'Don't forget to subscribe. for Victory!. and his return!". 1915 was the first year that France established a war loan program to assist in paying for the conflict. This poster urges the public to subscribe in the first 'Emprunt de la Defense Nationale' National Defence Loan. Francisque Poulbot 1879-1946 was a French poster designer draughtsman and illustrator known for his charming depictions of children and childhood. His prolific output of patriotic posters and postcards during World War One led to him being held under house arrest during the German occupation during World War Two. Mounted on linen.
