Label with print information to the reverse of the passe partout in German. Félicien Victor Joseph Rops 1833–1898 was a Belgian artist associated with Symbolism and the Parisian Fin-de Siecle. He was a painter illustrator caricaturist and a prolific and innovative print maker particularly in intaglio etching and aquatint. This image was originally produced in 1886 for the series "Les Diaboliques" . Héliogravure originale tirée de « l'homme et l'artiste ». L'un des 175 exemplaires existants. L'image mesure 24 cm x 165 cm sur une feuille de 25 x 195 cm. Elle est montée sur un passe-partout de 50 cm x 40 cm. Signée dans la plaque. Un bel exemple de cette image envoûtante. L'image et le passe-partout sont en excellent état. Étiquette avec informations sur l'impression au dos du passe-partout en allemand. Félicien Victor Joseph Rops 1833-1898 était un artiste belge associé au symbolisme et à la fin de siècle parisienne. Il était peintre illustrateur caricaturiste et graveur prolifique et innovant notamment dans le domaine de l'intaille eau-forte et aquatinte. Although not well known to the general public Rops was greatly respected by his peers and actively pursued and celebrated as an illustrator by the publishers authors and poets of his time. He provided frontispieces and illustrations for Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly Charles Baudelaire Charles De Coster Théophile Gautier Joris-Karl Huysmans Stéphane Mallarmé Joséphin Péladan Paul Verlaine Voltaire and many others. Best known today for his prints and drawings illustrating erotic and occult literature of the period he also produced oil paintings including landscapes seascapes and occasional genre paintings. J.
