1852toby1852
1852 softcover pamphlet discussing the downside of tobacco. When I got this the cover was off. Volume has had some restoration: cover is backed with matching paper and reattached. Paper and binding are fragile but overall readable with a gentle touch. Primary defect is the corner off the front page. Interior has foxing and stains but no vandalism. I think the author comes out of the same group that published Solomon Spittle which I also have listed. 1852 is the first year this was published but this is titled "Fourth Thousand" so this is an early printing. Has 8 plates that are included in pagination. 179 pages complete as issued. An uncommon item generally found in poor condition. This is decent not great which sometimes is the best you can do. Topic is health problems of tobacco. Discusses addiction acute toxicity chronic health problems including heart and lung disease as well as problems of second hand smoke. Auction records show only 2 sold and last seen in 1984. Both were dated 1852. Feel free to inquire. Please see scans of the book you will receive.
For the Author by Edward Livermore paperback

A rare pamphlet reproducing the address delivered at the installation of the author a Doctor of Political Economy and a lawyer in the Academia Lauretana de ciencias y artes de Arequipa. The titlepage indicates that the work was published by the author for his friends. Included is a chapter on intellectual production noting that lawyers doctors and other professionals can be also considered as industrial entities subject to the laws of free commerce.
