She was educated at the Conservatory in Paris. Régnier was one of her teachers.In 1872 she started acting at the Vaudeville and in 1879 she was contracted by the Comédie Française where she became a sociétaire in 1880. In 1874 she gave birth to a son by an unknown father her son died in 1894. She was the star of the Comédie Française and played in tragedies as well as in comedies. Her nickname was 'la Divine'.In 1906 she was awarded the Légion d'honneur chevalier. In 1908 she performed in London for a season and in 1919 she left the stage. In 1920 she became Officier de la Légion d'honneur. She died late in 1941. It is possible that she was born in 1851 instead of 1854.The recipient of the letters is:Mme. Edmond Archdeacon 1872-1960 née Anne-Françoise de Rocquigny du Faye was the widow of Edmond Archdeacon 1864-1906.She held salons and many of the letters in this collection have to do with these social events often at her salon at no. 3 rue de Tilsitt Paris.Her late husband died in 1906: Edmond Archdeacon Député de la Seine et homme d’affaires français né à Paris le 24 décembre 1864 décédé à Paris le 20 février 1906.Edmond Archdeacon était le fils d’un riche agent de change parisien d’origine irlandaise et d’opinions légitimistes. Regnault presided over a number of famous sales from the period foremost among them those of the expert Basan Count Potocki Rigal and the influential critic Saint-Yves. The introduction claims that Regnault-Delalande produced more than 300 sale catalogues the Getty Provenance Index records approximately 222. This memorial concludes in trans.: "This historian of Engraving.practiced as a connoisseur of art for forty years with as much integrity as talent. His death results in a large void in this sort of curiosity above all in the field of Prints." This catalogue describes 186 lots from Regnault-Delalande's choice collection. Lots 1-67 are framed drawings gouaches and watercolors by artists such as Bouchardon Castiglione H. Fragonard Greuze Guercino Jordaens Panini Rembrandt del Sarto C. & J. Vernet Rubens etc. Sheets of drawings constitute lots 68-90 and lots 91-102 are illustrated books. Scheduled for March 1815 this auction was postponed and held the following year when a second edition of the present catalogue was prepared Lugt 8854. This catalogue describes 146 lots of paintings drawings prints sculptures and clocks. There are pictures by Fra Angelico Guercino Boilly An. Carracci Fragonard O. Gentileschi Miel Guido Reni Steen Troost etc. Regnault-Delalande provides measurements and occasional notes on provenance. Nice copy. We locate only one example in North America. An uncommon auction catalogue of paintings drawings prints and books. The expert Regnault-Delalande 1762-1824 presided over more than 300 auctions and was the most prolific dealer of the period. Other examples of this catalogue bear inscriptions recording the owners as "Jeannerey" "Bance jeune" and "Potrelle et Comp" as noted by the Getty Provenance Index. Potrelle very likely refers to a print dealer whose stock was liquidated in 1805 by Regnault-Delalande Lugt 6901. The present catalogue contains 140 lots including drawings and sketches by C. & H. Vernet Lélu Le Comte etc.; and a rich selection of prints. Good copy.
