"Un poilu" is the affectionate slang term for a French W.W.I infantryman meaning a hairy or scruffy one. <br /> <br /> Steinlen 1859-1923 the famed Swiss born printmaker who settled and worked in Montmartre Paris is noted for his impressive posters of cafes and night life. He was a socialist whose images display his lifelong support and focus on the working class.<br /> <br /> 12 x 18 3/4". Title written in pencil at bottom of print. Tipped on to heavier stock.
