Note historique: Un des premiers livres sur Picasso, publié par la galerie "Cahiers d'Art" fondée cette même année. L'ouvrage est illustré de 4 reproductions de dessins dans le texte et de 42 planches, dont 2 en couleurs, reproduisant des œuvres de Picasso des années 1920-1926. La gravure accompagnant ce tirage de luxe, "Femme au fauteuil", fait partie d'une série réalisée en 1922-1923 dans laquelle les lignes superposées donnent à voir les figures à la fois de face et de profil. Le zinc est perdu. Stiff card boards and an integral paper dust wrapper with an inset colour reproduction. Text in French by Emile Male. With a frontispiece and thirty-one splendid colour tipped-in plates plus an additional twenty-eight black & white reproductions. Corners a little rubbed and creased with a touch of fairly superficial chipping to the wrapper spine panel ends and several small areas of light miscellaneous staining to the rear board. A very good copy. Jean Bourdichon served as official court painter to four successive French kings: Louis XI Charles VIII Louis XII and François I. As court painter he designed stained glass windows coins and gold plate illuminated manuscripts and executed independent paintings. This issue of 'Verve' is devoted to illuminated manuscripts and reproduces Bourdichon's contributions to the Latin manuscript "Les Heures D'Anne De Bretagne" held at the Bibliotheque Nationale Paris. Fully illustrated throughout with drawings paintings and photographs these 2 numbers contain original full colour lithographs by Chagall Miro Rattner Klee Matisse & Derain. The two issues have been bound into one hardbound volume and the binding has been beautifully hand painted in acrylic and oils with an abstract design including the volume title to both the boards and the spine by noted Neo-Expressionist American painter Gaylen Hansen. There is some rubbing to the edges and one small split to the outer edge of the front board without loss which has been strengthened to the inside with clear tape but generally the book is in very good condition. Included with the volume is a fine hardback copy of the fully illustrated book issued in 2007 to accompany the retrospective exhibition "Gaylen Hansen: Three decades of Paintings" at the Seattle Art Museum October 2007 - January 2008 and Salt Lake City Art Center February - April 2008.</p> Verve.
